San Francisco Defender Frequently Asked Questions:

The SF Office is located on the 19th Floor of the federal building. You must have a valid ID to enter the federal building. Clients without ID's can call the office and request an escort.

There is a coffee cart and cafeteria on the second floor of the federal building. There is also a small store that sells drinks and snacks on the 10th floor.

The Petty Offense calendar is on the 15th floor of the federal building, as are all magistrate courts. District Courts are on the 17th, 18th, and 19th floors. The Clerk's Office is on the 16th floor.

Friends and family cannot, unfortunately, visit defendants while in Marshal custody in the federal building.

If you are taking BART or MUNI to the San Francisco Federal Building exit Civic Center Station, U.N. Plaza exit and walk up Hyde Street to Golden Gate, turn left onto Golden Gate and walk two blocks to The Federal Building and Courthouse.

Parking:
A parking lot is located on Turk Street, directly across from the courthouse entrance and another at the corner of Larkin and Golden Gate Ave. A third lot is at Turk and Franklin Streets. The fees at these lots range from $9-$12 per day. There is also an underground lot at the Civic Center Plaza which charges $2.00 per hour or $14.00 per day. Metered parking is located throughout the area.
